Apple Watch Ultra

I never had any desire to own an Apple Watch until they came out with the Ultra. Upon reading about the fitness related specs (dual-frequency GPS tracking specifically), this thing really got my attention. I let my husband be the guinea pig and buy his first. I did run into a couple of issues, so here is my breakdown of everything good and everything bad.....Phone calls: Love it, I can hear the other person clearly, and they can hear me clearly. Even when my hands are tied (I'm riding a horse or walking dogs). Beautiful, vibrant display. Easy touchscreen interface. Love how the apps are set up in a cluster on the home screen. The watchband options are cool, but I'm sensitive about anything sitting on my wrist, so I got on Amazon and eBay, and I ordered a multitude of different Silicone bands for stupid cheap. My husband loves the Alpine Loop bands that the watches came with. The screen is very large (49mm), which was overwhelming at first. But the more I wore it, the less I noticed. In fact, when I'm running, I prefer the big screen and big display. My dad commented on how it dwarfs my little wrist, but I can cute it up with girly watchbands. Workout:  I'm still getting used to the workout interface. I've got my default set to Outdoor Run. I like that it gives me my split time and pace at every mile. It keeps track of my heart rate and calorie burn, as well as my average and real-time pace. You can operate workout mode using just external buttons (which I prefer because when I'm running and I'm sweaty, I can't work a touchscreen). Distance Tracking: This was the biggest feature that got my attention. I'm a runner, my husband is a cyclist, and accurate distance tracking is essential for our purposes. When I read that it uses dual-frequency GPS distance tracking, I was already 90% sold. Even most of the Garmin watches still use single-frequency mode. Anyway, I've verified that the Ultra tracks distance accurately. Very happy with that feature. Battery Life: I charge it about as often as I charge my phone (every other day), so I guess it's really not been an issue for me.Health: The health notifications were something I had to turn off. I have an insanely low heart rate, and it was screaming at me all the time to let me know that my heart rate had dropped below 40 bpm for 10 minutes. I'm sure that's a nice feature for most people to have enabled, but if you have a naturally low pulse, you'd probably want to turn it off. I bought mine and opted to pay the extra few dollars a month to have it as a stand-alone device, linked to my iPhone but still a separate phone line. Ultimately the goal is to be able to go running or walk my dogs with only my watch (which can play my music) and my headset. Since most women's clothing doesn't have phone pockets, carrying my phone isn't always feasible. And having the watch as a stand-alone device would allow me to make and receive calls and texts. Well I realized after a couple of days that it was only receiving calls/texts/notifications when it was near my phone. Took it back to Verizon and they determined it had a bad chip, so they replaced the watch with a brand new one. Easy peezy. Worked great. For about six weeks. Then one day I went to put on my watch, and I noticed that the digital crown (the external scroll button) was stuck, effectively rendering the device useless. It kept thinking I was trying to talk to Siri. I managed to get it to turn off just so it wouldn't start doing a bunch of random stuff. Anyway, I went BACK to Verizon, and they are replacing it (we pay monthly for insurance on all our devices). Problem is it won't be here until next week. My conclusion is that when it works, it's the best thing ever. But these little things have irritated me, and I hope this isn't a common thing among the Ultra.

I went up to a 45mm watch in 2021. Figured the larger screen would be helpful. Loved it, even though it was large. The Ultra is a little bigger, and the functionality is huge. The depth finder is so useful here in southwest Florida. I’m not an athlete, but the additional resiliency against salt water, the water temp gauge, and the emergency features are awesome to have while boating. I’ve used all my 45mm bands and have found a few that don’t seem to work perfectly. My favs though, like the silicone loop, work great. I got the watch with the alpine loop and really like it. Work well with the magnetic leather band as well (slightly more polished look). The titanium color is lovely, not too warm, not cool. I’ve set up accessibility to make a few key features easier to use, and it doesn’t work every time (software issue), but they’re great to have. 10/10 looks10/10 function10/10 battery8/10 strapThe battery is a huge shift. It becomes part of you, rather than something you take off nightly. I’m actually tracking my sleep now. It charges up quickly with usb-c.I hated the strap hook at first, but it’s easy now. And, well, you only take it off 3 times/week. Strap color (orange) is ridiculous and just pops.The screen is simply stunning. I love looking at it. Clarity + brightness.I went hiking alone, the siren gave a bit of comfort. It seems durable. Finally. I’ve waited and waited and waited for apple to get their watch design correct. Finally. Apple Watch ultra. Battery last all day of full use with plenty of juice to spare. I’ve gotten as long as two full days. But no need to since I have no problem charging at night. Just need it to last a full day and a full night. And it does! Sound on a phone call is great. Mics are wonderful. I can always be heard. I love the always in screen. Love the big design. It’s big but not overwhelming. I love the elevation and the new gps. Love the new face the made for this watch. And I love the alpine loop band. I didn’t try the others. The alpine loop stretches just a little so it is comfortable but holds the watch tight enough for all the sensors to work. At first I found it to be a bit rough on the skin as it’s polyester. Give it a couple weeks. It softens right up. I have both the green and the orange. I bought the Apple genuine band as my second band. Too often I’ve heard knockoffs coming loose. Worth the money to me. What else. I LOVE the screen size. Can read without my glasses. The screen is also nice and bright. Can easily be seen inside and out. And I love the durability. I work in a shop environment. So far no problems. The titanium is tough. And the sapphire lens seems tough too.I’ve waited and waited for apple to get the watch right. To make a watch for real people that do real activities and real work and put in many long days and nights. Finally they did it. As soon as I saw it I said to myself , finally they got it right enough for me. Last pieces I love. I like the security. I live alone. So it’s nice to know if I fall outside or even inside the watch is going to attempt to call emergency services. And I love that it has the alarm so if I fall outside I can set it off and be found quickly. Hopefully never need these features. It nice to know they are there.13 people found this helpful

I like this watch! After I bought it and it came ten days earlier! I told my wife I got it from Amazon and it's $60 off as compared with Costco, which was $20 off, and it was sold out! The only issue is that the watch has to be paired off with an iPhone 8 with 16 iOS. I went to an Apple store (I should have made an appointment) and the technician sold me a third-generation SE like my first-generation one. I bought this from big membership based store. I used it for 2 weeks. I wanted to like it but it hurt my wrist. I am not tiny, 6 feet 170lbs but still it hurt while remote working in the house. I couldn't keep it on while typing/using computer for hours. If I need to remove it while working, doesn't make sense to own it. Outside usage was better, I don't know maybe I was not thinking about it when I am outside. I even considered to exercise my wrist just to enjoy it. Sadly I sold it. I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he is absolutely in LOVE with this watch. He has had Apple Watches in the past, but he only wore them for a week and then stopped. This one though…… he only takes it off the charge it and take a shower. He works in a metal scrap yard and this watch is tough tough tough. 10/10 highly recommend!23 people found this helpful

I work an industrial environment so the AWU won't be local coffee shop barista bling. I've wrecked other watches in weeks due to super cheap aluminum and glass displays. So far this has been the only AW with a battery to last long enough for my needs. I work 12 hour shifts so taking a watch off to charge mid-day is ridiculous. Prior to this I had used Fit-bit watches exclusively as I consider those cheap enough to be disposable.Time will tell if the AWU holds up to people with real jobs and active lifestyles, not just the office drone, $7 coffee drinker types that only dream about "adventure". But those of us that actually get out into the world, and not just to walk a dog while posting insta pics.As a side. The orange bands, while cool. Are pretty loud. I'm swapping a titanium band on this as soon as it comes in. It'll also dry easier, wearing a cloth band is horrible when it's soaked in rain or sweat. If you don't go outside or sweat it's okay to stay with the cloth bands for sure.6 people found this helpful

I bought the watch for my medical health tracking purposes. However the face is wide for me so I gave it to my son. I will be buying a smaller one for me.

This is BY FAR THE BEST watch there EVER has been for kids!! If u want a way to guarantee you will be able to track your small child as well as not have to worry about it getting broke or lost or ruined by water then this is the PERFECT watch for them! Its basically waterproof, it can take a beating, the watchband basically locks on to your wrist( only the yellow watchband type NOT the velcro 1’s), it has schooltime mode so your child wont get in trouble with it at school, with a few simple commands with Siri your child can call you ANY time & vice versa which is also nice cor relatives to be able to call them too, & not only that it is the ONLY Apple watch with the built in DUAL GPS which has worked 99.999% of the time even when u live in rural areas like we do with lots of trees so you can ALWAYS locate your child no matter what. I know the price tag is steep but to me there is no price tag to high for piece of mind 24/7 knowing my child is where they r supposed to be & that they can contact me any time they have problem or r scared or whatever!! BEST APPLE WATCH TO DATE!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!3 people found this helpful
